MEET BARRY COOPER: A FORMER COP TURNED FREEDOM ACTIVIST

Netflix is producing a four-part docu-series about my life. It will air the first quarter of 2024. This is a sneak-peak:

Barry Cooper was once one of the nation’s top drug enforcement/K9 officers. During an Associated Press interview, Barry’s task force commander said, “Barry was even better than he says he was. He had a knack for finding drugs and made more arrests and more seizures than all of the other agents combined. He was probably the best narcotics officer in the state and maybe the country during his time with the task force.”
After an enormous shift in consciousness, he now works as an addiction specialist, freedom consultant, and criminal defense expert witness. He has made hundreds of drug arrests and has practiced as a criminal defense expert for over a decade.
Barry is an accredited lecturer who has given presentations for the Texas Criminal Defense Attorney’s Association (Tyler, TX) Texas Criminal Defense Attorney Association (Houston, TX), Public Defender’s Association (Orlando, FL), Public Defender’s Association (Clearwater FL) and the Seattle Defense Lawyer’s Association.
Projector Films is currently producing a five part docu-series about Barry’s life which will feature his successes as a former drug agent and current expert witness/activist. The docu-series is scheduled to air on HBO or Netflix in mid 2022.
Barry also starred with Woody Harrelson, 50 Cent, Eminem, and Susan Sarandon in the anti-drug war documentary, “How To Make Money Selling Drugs”. Watch the excerpt below that features NeverGetBusted freeing prisoners and defendants.

BARRY COOPER'S HISTORY AS A COP

Barry Cooper was once considered one of america’s best drug agent. He was cross trained and worked joint operations with the ATF, DEA, FBI, U.S. Military and Border Patrol

He received specialized training in every known field of narcotics operation. Barry Cooper has also worked undercover operations, performed reverse stings, conducted scores of search warrants, trained drug dogs, and worked highway interdiction.

He was the first to blow the whistle on drug dog false alerts in 2006 when he released footage of a certified drug detector dog false alerting.

He began his Texas law enforcement career as a police dispatcher for the Gladewater Police Department. He was soon hired by the Big Sandy Police Department where he trained his own narcotic detector dog.

Although he had less than five miles of highway to practice his craft, Barry Cooper made over one hundred drug arrests and broke several drug seizure records.

Because of his record-breaking drug seizure numbers, Barry Cooper was hired by the prestigious Permian Basin Drug Task Force located in West Texas.

Barry Cooper taught narcotics interdiction classes and police K-9 seminars at various police academies and agencies throughout Texas. Each seminar included one 8 hour shift of Barry Cooper demonstrating his ability to make drug arrests.

The standard agreement was for the host agency to pay all his expenses including an instructor’s fee. The seminar was free if Barry Cooper failed to make drug arrest. He never had to return refund any money.

Barry Cooper finished his career as head of the narcotics division for the Gladewater Police Department .

Barry Cooper accumulated a record of over 500 misdemeanors and over 300 felony drug arrests. He seized over 50 automobiles and millions in cash and assets. Barry Cooper quit law enforcement due to political pressures that were caused by arresting the wrong people and for out-performing the local drug task force and the DEA. He arrested the mayor’s son for methamphetamine and a city councilman for marijuana which caused the local task force to be defunded.

WHY BARRY IS NO LONGER A COP

Barry now admits his conscience often bothered him as he raided and jailed non-violent citizens. Tearing the families apart never seemed right to him. He explains,

“My parents, the public schools and the churches taught me any person who used drugs is evil and deserves to be harshly punished. At times, I could feel I was doing something wrong but the brainwashing of anti-drug propaganda, my addiction to adrenaline, and my need for peer acceptance overrode my good conscience.”

In 2006, as a form of penance, Barry used his experience as a former drug agent to produce a series of instructional videos titled, NeverGetBusted. The DVD series taught citizens how to avoid being arrested for drug crimes.

Flanking NeverGetBusted, he produced an Internet reality show called, KopBusters, where he set traps for police and filmed them committing crimes. One particular sting brought attention to a mother of two who had been illegally incarcerated after police planted drugs in her car.

The sting was designed to embarrass the police and trick them into raiding a fake marijuana grow-house that was rigged with hidden cameras.

Although he and his family suffered severe retaliation, the sting was a success because Yolanda Madden was released from federal prison and remains free today.

Barry’s critics viewed his style of activism as a personal attack against god, children, and the police. Now, most people see NeverGetBusted and KopBusters as a clever humanitarian operation that was designed to protect citizens from their abusive government.

The United States now holds the all-time world record for the number of citizens it incarcerates…numerically and proportionately.

“The Drug War is a war on people and is a failed policy. Even the DEA admits we now have a larger supply of more potent drugs at a cheaper price than ever before. Do you realize over 800,000 non-violent citizens were arrested last year for marijuana?  Did you know the U.S. now holds the all time world record for the number of citizens it incarcerates?  In fact, the U.S. has more prisoners than communist China who has 1 billion more in population than America. Although the U.S. has only 5% of the world’s population, it houses 25% of the world’s prisoners.  Millions of American children are orphaned by one or both parents because of the failed War on Drugs. The drug war can be labeled as a slow motion holocaust. Although there is currently bipartisan movement to decriminalize and legalize marijuana the number of marijuana arrests rises each year.  Since it is impossible to overdose to death on marijuana,   Americans have learned the worst side effects of the plant is the punishment for possessing it.”

Barry noticed law enforcement’s willingness to abuse citizens was growing each second. He himself was unjustifiably raided twice, arrested nine times and had his autistic son taken for almost 2 years.

The other arrests were for his activism and led to either charges being dropped, being found not guilty and plea bargains that included no jail time.
